Coffee or Tea, Tika?
Are you more of a coffee or a tea kind of girl?
I guess I’ve always loved both—each with their own kind of comfort. There’s something about a café latte that feels like home, and something about Earl Grey tea that feels like a quiet, gentle hug. They’re my favorites, no question.
There’s a time and mood for Earl Grey, but most days, I just can’t get through without my daily cup of latte. The scent of Earl Grey—with its soft, citrusy touch of bergamot—always calms me. It’s like pressing pause on a noisy day. And the latte? The soft caffeine is exactly what I need, just enough to lift me, never too harsh, just a quiet nudge to keep going.
But, I’m a little particular, aren’t I?
It’s not just any latte—it has to be Kopi Ujung latte, from my hometown’s legendary café. They brew it with Arabica beans and their own secret recipe. I can’t seem to enjoy other coffees; my body doesn’t welcome them. They make my heart beat funny, sometimes make me feel dizzy, even sick.
And Earl Grey? It’s not so easy to find here. It’s not a popular taste in Indonesia. I usually have to search for it in the imported goods aisle, like I’m chasing something far away.
Funny, isn’t it?
How complicated it is, sometimes, to give your body a little joy.
But maybe that’s the whole point.
If I can afford these small, quiet happinesses—if I can sip them in peace—I should be grateful.
Tika, please remember that.
Be grateful. Always.
Alhamdulillah ‘alaa kulli hal.
